This exhibition showcases the work of seven painters whose friendships and creative bonds have spanned five decades: Donald Beal, Tony DeFazio, Rob Du Toit, Kim Gagne, Thomas Higham, Don Maki, and Margaret Roberts. All were once students at either the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, Massachusetts, or Parsons School of Design in New York City, or both.
These artist, connected through a lifelong commitment to painting, was shaped by two pivotal mentors who met each other in their youth: David Loeffler Smith, who taught at Swain, and Paul Resika at Parsons. Both instilled a discipline of observation and a passion for painting as a deeply personal, expressive practice.
